This week we heard your Unofficial History of the ABC.

Play School star and ABC legend Don Spencer joined Raf on Drive to talk about his memories of working on Play School and the love he still gets from the community.

You also shared your memories.

Sue — In the 1950s Mum sat me on the carpet to listen to the bakelite Kreisler radio to listen to The Kindergarten Of The Air every weekday morning as she bathed and attended to the new baby. The theme song was "boys and girls come out to play".

Kate — Best memories of the ABC: every evening after school, homework till 6, The Goodies, then Dr Who at 6.30. An immovable ritual.

Steve — As a kid in the 80s and 90s, at night I would tape record music shows like Rage to make mix tapes. I also discovered Australian jazz. For a country kid it was my gateway to the world of music.

Jenni — As teenagers we would catch the train from Frankston to Ripponlea to see bands like Culture Club and Duran Duran amongst others. We couldn't afford the tickets to the concerts, but could get up close and personal as the live audience at COUNTDOWN!

Bob — Peter Evans on 774 mornings playing rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic when ever he had to deal with politicians or ABC management.

Kylie — As a stay at home mum for 20 odd years ABC radio was my way of staying up to date with events in the world. Our adult kids refer to the ABC news theme as the soundtrack to their childhoods.

Patsy — Does anyone remember the hot summer's night when Eric Pearce was reading the TV news, dressed as usual in dinner suit and bow tie. At the end the camera slid down at the side to show he was wearing shorts below desk level!

Kym — In 2009 Richard Stubbs' Wednesday afternoon interview with the BOM saved my family's life from the Black Saturday bush fires. We lived in Marysville. After the interview and predictions of catastrophic conditions, we made the call to leave town. Thank you ABC.

Sarah — I'm an army officer and while deployed to Iraq in 2017, I used to stream Nightlife with Bruce and Phil. It reminded me that whilst I was far from home, there were wonderful Australians calling in and living in a peace that they trusted me to provide on their behalf. It made me proud to serve and represent them.

Paulene — My father was such a fan of the ABC (everything else was referred to as a 'B class station 😂) we played the ABC news theme at his funeral and had his favourite radio tuned to 774 on the memory table.

And that's just some of your Unofficial History of the ABC.
