Cadaver dog helps search for Belgian tourist Celine Cremer at Philosopher Falls bushwalk
By Clancy Balen- In short: Police have new information relating to the missing tourist's phone activity that pinpoints an area of the bushwalking track where she disappeared
- What's next? The NSW cadaver dog on loan to Tasmanian Police will search that area today and tomorrow for any signs of Celine Cremer
A NSW Police cadaver dog brought into Tasmania to help with the search for Shyanne-Lee Tatnell has been repurposed to look for missing Belgian tourist Celine Cremer.
The 31-year-old tourist is believed to have disappeared on a bushwalk at Philosopher Falls, in the state's north-west over a month ago.
She was reported missing on June 26 and her car, a white Honda, was found in the car park of the Philosopher Falls track the next day.
Waggs, a specialist cadaver dog, is on loan from New South Wales and was originally brought to the state to help search the North Esk River and surrounds at Launceston for missing 14-year-old Shyanne-Lee Tatnell.
Human remains, believed to be that of Shyanne-Lee, were later found in bushland far from Launceston on the first day of the new search and a man was charged with her alleged murder.
Now, it is hoped Waggs can provide a lead in the case of Ms Cremer, with police having found no sign of her since her car was discovered.
Speaking on the search for Shyanne-Lee, Northern District Commander Kate Chambers said Tasmania Police acknowledged "our strong partnership with NSW Police".
She said NSW was "one of two law enforcement jurisdictions in Australia with a cadaver detection capability".
New information on Cremer's phone activity
In a statement, Tasmania Police said information in relation to Ms Cremer's phone activity received last week had provided search teams with an "additional area of interest".
"This week, police search and rescue and Tasmania SES personnel conducted ground searches in the revised area of interest, however no signs of Celine were located," Inspector Anthea Maingay said.
"The cadaver dog is being used to further search that area today, and this will continue tomorrow.
"Our thoughts remain with Celine's family."
Police believe Ms Cremer's car may have been at the Falls as early as June 17.
The search for Ms Cremer was formally suspended on July 10, before recommencing with this new effort.
