This week we heard your Unofficial History of Sydney Road, Brunswick.

Long-time Sydney Road business owner Rusell Stuckey, of Stuckey Tyre Service, joined Raf Epstein in the studio to discuss how the area has changed over time.

You also shared your memories.

Sue remembers this: I grew up in the 50s along that road everyday to school from Victoria St to St Ambroses. There was a department store that had the cashier sitting up in the booth sending the change down the wire in a canister. Coles when it opened, and in the 60s stopping to watch the TV in the shop window. Bought lollies and flowers for my mum when I had money.

Paul said: Went to high school at Brunswick Tech. Sydney Road was the centre of the universe during my teenage years.

Faye took us back to the 70s: We had a milk bar close to the corner of Sydney Rd and Brunswick Rd from 1976 to 1985. Within that period we had a few notables coming to our shop. Such as Imran Khan and his cricket team in the early 80s, Split Ends (Crowded House) on their way to recording studios on Sydney Rd, the American basketball team, Bob Jane and a few others. Needless to say we were very popular!

Andrew said: In 1981 the late great Franco Cozzo from Sydney Rd allowed us to "kidnap" him to get points for O Week at uni.

Albert remembered: There were 2 pictures theatre on Sydney road. One in coburg opposite coles which closed in the late fifties and one in Brunswick where the existing police station is now and that closed in the early seventies.

Amanda recalled this: In the 90s I used to go to see metal bands at the Sarah Sands Hotel in Sydney Rd. I remember my mum being a bit freaked out as she knew the Sarah Sands as a strip club.

Damien said: Raf — Sarah Sands goth night was 'Earwigs by Night' (I think — 1991) and one night we were there playing pool very late, and Robert Smith and The Cure turned up there after a gig somewhere and just hung out with the goths playing pool and having a few drinks!

And that's just some of your Unofficial History of Sydney Road, Brunswick.
